Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Warmest Greetings !
It gives me great pleasure to welcome readers and contributors to the inaugural issue
of the DMDI Journal of Malay & Islamic Civilization. This publication marks a significant
milestone in our collective mission to strengthen intellectual and cultural ties among
DMDI member nations.
The journal embodies the spirit of ‘Save the Past, Build the Future’—a testament to
our commitment to preserve the wisdom and traditions of our ancestors while
empowering new generations to pursue knowledge, creativity, and unity in the name
of civilization. I commend DMDI International College for spearheading this noble
initiative and for positioning the journal as a bridge of ideas connecting scholars,
cultural practitioners, and visionaries from across the Malay–Islamic world.
May this inaugural issue inspire continuous research, collaboration, and the
renaissance of Malay–Islamic thought throughout the region and beyond.

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Warmest Greetings !
It is with great enthusiasm that I join in celebrating the launch of the DMDI Journal of
Malay & Islamic Civilization. This inaugural issue represents an important milestone in
DMDI’s intellectual and cultural journey, as it transforms our long-standing heritage
mission into a scholarly platform for knowledge exchange and civilizational dialogue.
In the era of globalization and digital acceleration, the preservation and dissemination
of Malay–Islamic values require a strategic and academic approach. This journal serves
not only as a repository of ideas but also as a compass for guiding our future—
anchored in heritage, yet oriented towards innovation and sustainable development.
I applaud the editorial team and the DMDI International College for their dedication
and scholarly commitment. May this publication inspire collaboration among DMDI
member nations, strengthen our intellectual ecosystem, and contribute meaningfully
to the advancement of Malay–Islamic civilization in the 21st century.
Chief Editor
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. With gratitude to the Almighty, I
welcome you to the inaugural issue of the DMDI Journal of
Malay & Islamic Civilization. As Editor-in-Chief of this journal it
is my great honor to introduce this publication. This moment
marks a significant milestone for Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam
(DMDI), as we launch a scholarly platform devoted to the rich
legacy and future promise of Malay and Islamic civilization. For
nearly 25 years since its formation in 2000, DMDI has worked
hard to forge fraternal ties among the region’s Malay-speaking
communities and to build religious relations with the larger
Muslim world. DMDI Journal of Malay & Islamic Civilization is
envisioned as a unifying scholarly platform for the entire
Malay–Islamic world. The publication of this first issue
represents not only an academic milestone but also a
civilizational calling.
Through this platform, we hope to bring together the diverse voices of the Malay–Islamic world—its
scholars, thinkers, artists, and leaders—into a unified discourse that celebrates our past while
envisioning a future grounded in faith, culture, and intellect. We warmly invite contributions from
scholars of all DMDI member regions, from the Nusantara heartlands to the global diaspora, to foster
a vibrant exchange of ideas that transcends borders. By bringing together diverse perspectives under
one banner, we hope to strengthen fraternal bonds and mutual understanding through the shared
pursuit of knowledge.
Finally, on behalf of the editorial board, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Tuan Yang Terutama Tun
Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam for his vision and leadership, and to all contributors
who have believed in this mission. Together, we affirm that the legacy of Malay–Islamic civilization is
not a relic of the past, but a living force shaping tomorrow. We look forward to your support and
engagement as we embark on this important journey of knowledge. Selamat membaca – happy
reading – and thank you for joining us in reviving and advancing the Malay–Islamic intellectual
tradition through this journal.
